At the University of Maryland- College Park, coasties are in one of their native habitats, and therefore are not referred to as coasties. Instead, Marylanders call them "bitties".

Without coasties, perhaps American Apparel would not have a location on State St! If it helps, LATFC bloggers come from different state backgrounds. In fact, one of us is actually from the coast (but does not participate in coastie subculture trends).
