WELCOME TO LATFC

Dear Readers,

Welcome!  And thanks for taking a look at this social experiment.  Before any coasties out there take offense to anything written in this blog, please take a step back and remind yourselves that this is just for fun.  So... browse, enjoy yourselves, send us your photos, write us some emails, and tell us your best coastie stories.

AND happy first day of school to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

For anyone who doesn't know the correct definition of a coastie, check it out:

Coastie (n.) : refers to a subculture of midwestern universities, whose population is generally between the ages of 18 and 23.  The female coastie is easily recognized by the orange glow of her skin, the wearing of Ugg boots for all seasons, spandex leggings, oversized t-shirts that barely graze the top of the buttocks, North Face fleece and/or knee-length puffy coat, messy hair, oversized sunglasses or RayBans of any color, a duffle-sized purse, a Venti Mocha Latte with skim, and a Blackberry as an extension of the hand.  A coastie rarely travels alone, and is partial to moving with their pack.  Their male counterpart can be identified simply by calling out "Braaaaaaaaa!" and waiting for a response.  Accents include tattered backward-facing baseball hats, polos of any kind, plaid or khaki shorts, and flip flops.  The male coastie enjoys activities such as Ultimate Frisbee, beer pong (at any time) and pledging fraternities.  The male and female coastie may interact at such social institutions as frat parties and sorority formals.  There is controversy as to the specific origins of coasties.  While a majority come from the east and west coasts of the United States, some may hail from larger suburbs of major cities (i.e. Chicago, Twin Cities, Milwaukee).
